iPhone 15 will not support ProMotion and all-weather display functions

iPhone 15 Ultra

Apple will launch the iPhone 15 series in the last quarter of this year. However, the industry has been getting rumours about these phones for a couple of months. According to reports out of South Korea, the iPhone 15 will not use an LTPO display. This means that the phone will not support ProMotion adaptive display. The refresh rate may be high but it will not automatically change between 1Hz and 120Hz. Last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max used an updated low-power display backlight tech that supports ProMotion refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz. The refresh rate of the display adjusts according to the content on the screen. Static content uses a lower refresh rate, and dynamic content such as games and videos uses a higher refresh rate to provide a smoother experience.

Gizchina News of the week

Just like last year, only the Pro models in the iPhone 15 series will support the LTPO panels. These are the panels that can offer ProMotion. This new info suggested that the feature will remain exclusive to Apple’s high-end models. If the news is true, this also means that the all-weather display function will remain an exclusive feature of the Pro model. This is because only the new LTPO panel supports the 1Hz refresh rate, which is the basis for the all-weather display function.

Display analyst Ross Young also gave a similar revelation in September 2022. He said at the time that it is expected that all iPhone 15 series will support Smart Island, but the limitation of production scale means that not all iPhone 15 series will adopt LPTO panel.

iPhone 15 Pro will use better cameras

From the reports so far, the Pro model will get a stronger imaging system. With Apple’s years of deep research in the imaging field, the imaging performance of the iPhone 15 Pro is still very exciting. In addition, there is news that all iPhone 15 series will support Smart Island for the standard models this year. This is a big upgrade for next-gen iPhone users.
