Nexus 7 2 vs Xiaomi Mipad tablet

Iā€™m a firm believer that 7-inches is the perfect size for a tablet, Google and Xiaomi seem to agree as both companies have new 7-inch Android tablets headed for release very soon! Letā€™s take a look at the Nexus 7 2 Vs the Xiaomi Mipad tablet.

Neither the new Nexus 7 tablet by Google nor the Xiaomi Tablet have been confirmed by the companies behind them, but we have seen enough evidence in the form of leaked renders and specifications to believe that both are real and will be headed to market very soon.

Nexus 7 2 vs Xiaomi Tablet

Both Xiaomi and Google are rumoured to be launching 7-inch tablets, both of which will be running Android, and both are expected to be very affordable, but which tablet will offer the best value for money once launched?

The 2nd generation Nexus 7 will again be again be manufactured by Asus and, from the various leaks, will look rather similar to the current Nexus 7. Most of the changes and updates for the Nexus 7 2 look to have been made under the hood so letā€™s take a look at the specification.

2nd Generation Nexus 7 specification

From leaked and speculation we believe we have a pretty good idea what Google will be offering with the Nexus 7 2. We believe the display will be a 7-inch 1200 x 1980 unit, which will be power by a 1.5Ghz Snapdragon 600 processor with 2GB RAM.

NFC support seems likely too as does the latest version of Android, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Google and Asus are expected to launch a number of versions including options for either 16GB or 32GB, WiFi only and WIFI plus LTE and possibly even a Pro version with 4GB RAM. Each verion will come with both front and rear cameras, but unfortunately no SD card slot.

Pricing for the 2nd generation Nexus 7 is expected to start at $229 for the base 16GB model with Wifi only.

Gizchina News of the week

The Xiaomi tablet (possibly named the MiPad) will be Xiaomiā€™s first Android tablet manufactured and sold under the Xiaomi brand (there is another official MIUI tablet on sale in Japan) and is expected to launch on August 16th alongside a Xiaomi TV, the Xiaomi Red Rice and Xiaomi Mi3.

The Xiaomi tabletā€™s price is expected to be lower than the new Nexus device so we expect a very different level of hardware, however from our knowledge of current Xiaomi products and the fantastic MIUI ROM we donā€™t expect performance or usability to be affected much.

From reports on Chinese tech sites and tips from our own sources the Xiaomi tablet will also feature a 7-inch panel but with a lower 1280 x 720 resolution and a similar form factor to the current Apple iPad mini.

Just one version of the Xiaomi tablet will be available, but the Beijing based company have managed to keep us guessing as ( to if it will be running a quad-core Meidatek MT8125 or 1.2Ghz Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset. What we are pretty sure about is that the tablet will come with built-in 3G (not LTE as it isnā€™t widely available in China yet), get 1GB RAM, 4000mAh battery, 13 mega-pixel camera and MIUI V5 tablet edition.

Pricing fro the Chinese mainland for the Xiaomi tablet is rumoured to be just 999 Yuan ($160) and we can expect to see the tablet to officially go on sale in Hong Kong and Taiwan. International Xiaomi fans will be expected to pay a premium for the tablet which will only be available through resellers (failing an international launch that is).

Which would you buy?

Looking at specs alone the new Nexus 7 is the clear winner, but personally we prefer the form factor of the Xiaomi tablet along with the lower price. Which do you prefer? Which will you buy? Let us know in the comments below.

If the Xiaomi tablet has a ‘ipad mini’ like form factor for the screen(3/4), then it will not have a 720p screen. 720p is 720×1280 (wide screen 9/16), no more no less. The 3/4 display of the ipad mini is more like 768×1024.

anyway, if the Xiaomi tablet has 3/4 display at the same form/size that a ipad mini (7.9in i think?) and full OTG support i might be interested. I like to plug a PS3 controller to play emulators, that runs on a 3/4 screen format.

Nexus 7 looks better. Prices should be the same for non-chinese customers, so Google has an advantage here so far.

Xiaomi’s designs are one of the best among the Chinese manufacturers, not to mention original.

I am sure they will come out with a good design for their tablet.

1280 x 720pxs with that stupid 16:9 TV-screen aspect ratio – and the Xiaomi MiPad has already lost.
    Sorry, Xiaomi!

1.Make sure that Xiaomi didn’t clone the appearance of ipad mini or else’s and pack a full of trash inside.
    2. Xiaomi knows it’s sales don’t cross the borders because it will infringe someone’s copyrights if they do.
