Gionee Elife S5.5 gets an update to Snapdragon 400 and LTE

Remember the ultra slim, 5.55mm, Gionee Elfie S5.5 which launched this year? Well it has already undergone an update and received a new processor and LTE.

The Gionee S5.5L is now the world’s thinnest Android smartphone with 4G LTE, and Snapdragon 400 chipset. Gionee have ripped out the previously installed 1.7Ghz octacore MT6592 and replaced it with the MSM8928 quad-core running at 1.6Ghz.

Gizchina News of the week

While they were at it Gionee upped the screen resolution to 1080p with a Samsung panel, and increased the battery size to 2450mAh. The battery update has meant the S5.5L had to put on some weight though and now measures in at 5.75mm.

The rest of the specs remain largely unchanged with 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel Sony main camera and wide-angle 5 mega-pixel front. The S5.5 was currently only officially launched in China and India, the LTE version should see action in other countries also.

Previous XOLO Q1011 launched in India with MT6582 for 10k INR, available exclusively on Amazon
Next TCL’s next 4G LTE phone will cost only $65 in China!

Snapdragon 400 chipset supports dual sim, i dont think Gionee will make a (single sim) mistake, atleast for chinese market.

That’s a downgrade not an upgrade and the screen was already 1080p.

I agree, my friend was looking at buying this phone but I think it was better before the ‘upgrade’. Personally think they should have just added the 6590 chip to the existing phone to make it 4G and fitted the bigger battery anyway. Now the phone is thicker shouldn’t it be called S5.75!! lol
