China still seems to be the place to find obscure, interesting and often innovative gadgets and
tablet devices, and this latest
tablet which was sent to
us by our friends at
Gizchina really checks all the boxes.
First of all is that name! The
Magic Pad sounds more like a personal hygiene product rather than an electronics communication and consumption
device, but that's what was said about the iPad and look how well it was received!
Once you see the
Magic Pad there really is no mistaking if for anything else! The whole concept of the
device is very much unique from the look of the design,
dual boot operating system all the way to the super slender separate
keyboard and trackpad.
The tablet unit itself is a 10.1 inch touch screen unit with a resolution of 1024 x 600. the body is made of a sturdy plastic and it measures a chunky 23.6mm in thickness with a weight of 785 grams.
What makes this
tablet different from the rest though is the built in fold out stand and included wireless
keyboard with trackpad, which essentially means the Magic pad can act as both a
media consumption
tablet or possibly even a laptop computer replacement.
Specification wise the
Magic Pad gets a Intel Atom CPU clocked at 1.66 Ghz, 1Gb RAM (with an option of up to 4Gb!), storage for your
media and files is handled an SSD
hard drive in either a 16Gb or 32Gb configuration. You also get Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 2 x USB and a built in
web camera.
The maker of the
Magic Pad reports that the prototype model shown here is only running
Windows 7, but there will be an
Android 2.2 option available once on the market with a planned upgrade to
Android 3.0 Honeycomb!
There are no details on price but the Magic Pad is meant to ship by the end of this month.
