The
THL W1 has been on
sale for some time now and recently received a dual-core
MT6577 update. Today
THL have announced a
new entry-level version of the
phone with lower 999 Yuan ($160) price point.
The current dual-core W1 is on
sale at 1299 Yuan ($208), but to make things more adorable for students,
THL have released a "Youth Version" of the
phone. It has become very popular over the last 12 month for
Chinese manufactures to market both high-end and "Youth Models" of the same phone, Xiaomi and Amoi are other big brands which often do this.
So
what is different between the low-cost model and full-blown
THL W1? Well not much really! Both phones have the same dual-core MT6577 processor, 4.3-inch 960 x 540 display, 8 mega-pixel rear camera and
Android 4.0 ICS OS, but the
entry-level model only get's 512mb RAM rather than 1GB.
It might not look like much of a saving for us, but for the average Chinese student 300 Yuan would be a few trips to the supermarket.
