Meizu MX4 Pro Hands on Video

We didn’t want to keep you waiting too long so after a long search for a stable internet connection I have finally been able to upload our Meizu MX4 Pro hands on video.

For those of you who missed it, the Meizu MX4 Pro launched yesterday in Beijing, and I was among a select few who were given the new flagship phone early for review.

The MX4 Pro is the larger, faster and smarter brother of the MX4 which launched two months ago. In this video I go over some of the differences between the Meizu MX4 Pro and Meizu MX4, show you some of the new features (like the mTouch fingerprint reader), and give you a tour around Flyme 4.1 and it’s new feautres.

That Home Button looks horrible. Ok, it’s more accurate, but still there is a lot of room for improvement

If you can read earlier posts by Andy, the design of the Fingerprint scanner is made in such a way to retain accuracy & functionality without compromising design as much. Regardless what the shape is what is important is that it works! I prefer it over the Samsung S5 swiping action that fails most of the time. I also tried Elephone’s 2000 series and it aint that sensational either. I find the single omni-directional light tap better than swiping Nth number of times to unlock the device.

I still don’t understand why the circle button could not be kept! Why couldn’t they implement identical functionality with a capacitive circle button?

As Andy mentioned, the rectangular shape has more surface area to scan a fingerprint. Furthermore, making it circular will mean a lower screen to body ratio and will affect the size of the phone.

Is there a reason the fingerprint scanner couldn’t be placed inconspicuously beneath the capacitive ring? Why did they need to make it a physical button at all?

but, hell, as far as I understand , iPhone has an accurate round fingerprint scanner, that friggin works!

Awesome device, nice features in Flyme 4.1 for mx4 pro and very decent price!
Andi, this version of Flyme, 4.1, will also go to standard meizu mx4? They said something about it or you heard something about it?

    • November 20, 2014

Yup, seems like it will come to the MX2 and 3 also

Hi Andi! Did you hear anything about the entry-level phone from Meizu? The MX3 is still too expensive to me. I’m waiting for a cheap Meizu for months now. Maybe I’ll go with the Redmi or other cheap device.

        • November 21, 2014

Well Jack Wong promised 4 phones and Meizu say that is still their plan. Hopefully the next 2 will be Redmi rivals πŸ˜€

I got 45,520 on my device. Vellamo HTML having some trouble completing the test always incomplete it says even after 5 attempts. Singlecore and Multi tests not as impressive as the MX4 (MT6595) but GPU seems to be more powerful compared to the PowerVR6200. I do enjoy Injustice on the PRO over the MX4 the graphics is just soo stunning in 2K resolution and i guess the new Mali GPU + 3GB RAM proved to work well since I never experienced Game crashes (Note3) or minor Lags (MX4).

Maybe you could pay extra attention to LTE performance, they are using Marvell and we don’t see much of that outside China (mostly carrier subsidized phones).

The new ‘Smart touch’ button looks like a winner, Hopefully it will come to the MX4 firmware.

I’m also curious about that. I hope to see that + the gestures on Flyme 4.1 for standard mx4… For some yea the dot might look ugly but as i saw you can pretty much set it for many things and that sounds sweet.

From the sources I’ve read from Chinese community(Mainland, Hongkong), I doubt your point that the sound quality can not be on par with vivo xshot.

Andi,, please make a full review of the Mx4 pro ASAP. i know it will be available in dec.6 …

especially the HIFI features of the Meizu MX4 Pro with the pair of new in ear-headphones named the EP21-HD.put that Retina Sound as they call it in test please and compare it with Xshot ..also i read in the international website of meizu that the rear camera of mx4 pro can shoot video @100fps ,, please confirm that also

Add to that joke! Meizu MX4 Pro is a two-touch login to begin with, and at every login, it seems to be an error or other problem with the mismatch … See the film at 1.50 min, and at 3.0 min … She says empty mismatch at the 3 min and 4 sec … I can guarantee that she will not have wet fingers even …

I think it has nothing to do with the phone mate. Obviously she doesn’t use it all that well, in my honest opinion.
What I’m really interested to see is the differences in camera between MX4 and MX4 pro because I ordered my MX4 few days ago… and to ask Andi, if he knows, if the camera in MX4 will later get an update in the algorithms etc and have the same as PRO… since they are using the same sensor, i guess it’s possible, right?

      November 23, 2014

Guys, keep in mind that all MX4 PRO units released so far (including mine) are all pre production models with a buggy Flyme 4.1. We are so eager to find out the performance and specs and once it is out using a PRE-Prod unit people bash about it. To make it worst it breaks my heart when people can be soo judgemental even if they do not have actual hands on experience on the device. If you are going to base comparisons and reviews of devices, do alot of goggle and read GIZCHINA! very few credible tech writers such as Andy. Rest assured when the final version of the unit is ready it will be awesome after all the tweaks and bug fixes (reported by us PRO users).

How on earth does it know how to optimise the sound for your headphones?? There’s no way of knowing the style of headphones through a 3Β·55 mm jack!!

    What’s with the slower soc?
If it is a “pro” why haven’t they used Exynos 5433? I mean Meizu MT6595 of MX4 is faster than Exynos 5430…
