Huawei and Nokia Signed Patent Licensing Agreement

Nokia and Huawei

Nokia has been very popular before the first smartphones appeared on the market. And though it tried to survive by launching several models, nothing saved it. As you remember, the Lumia line models were incredible, but the smartphone users were accusing the company of choosing a wrong operating system. Now Nokia smartphones run on Android, but their future is still foggy. This means the giant efforts invested in this sphere could be lost to the ages. Probably, this is the main reason why many manufacturers are signing cross-licensing agreements with Nokia. Today it became known Huawei became the next company to sign a patent agreement with this company.

Gizchina News of the week

According to the announcement, Huawei and Nokia have signed a patent licensing agreement for a few years. Maria Varsellona, Chief Legal Officer at Nokia said they welcomed Huawei to their patented licensee family. While many can surprise, Huawei is one of the largest companies in China and a leading smartphone maker in the world. So this agreement should be signed sooner or later.

Unfortunately, no details concerning the agreement have been disclosed yet. But the signing date says the Q4 patents of both companies should be included in it.

It’s worth mentioning in July this year, Nokia and another Chinese giant, Xiaomi signed a cross-licensing agreement. The Chinese Apple was the first domestic company coming in with such a deal. But before that Samsung, Apple, and many other smartphone makers have managed to sign similar agreements.
