OpenKirin Brings Stock Android Experience To Huawei/Honor Phones

Huawei and Honor smartphones currently ships with its EMUI software which is deeply customized and comes with loads of features which makes it very far from Stock Android experience. However, if you are a fan of Huawei/Honor but also love stock Android running on top of Huawei/Honor hardware, then this would be a good news for you. A team of professional developers called OpenKirin Team has developed an unofficial LineageOS, CarbonROM, and Resurrection Remix builds for all EMUI 8 devices. This work was made easier because the HiSilicon Kirin devices now support Project Treble which handles the chronic aspect of the job. Any Huawei or Honor smartphone running on EMUI 8 (out-of-the-box or updated) supports this project. However, OpenKirin team has launched a website where all its supported devices are listed. As of now, OpenKirin supports 17 devices. These devices are:

For those interested in this experience, you may have to hurry to get it and you have until July 22nd, 2018 to request a bootloader unlock code. This is because Huawei’s/Honor’s hierarchy is not very friendly to the developer community and has since stopped providing bootloader unlocking codes for all devices. If you want to install the ROMs, you can download them from the link below and you may just need to flash the images provided via Fastboot or TWRP. Team OpenKirin seriously warns

“Before downloading one of our builds, ensure you have read and understood the installation guide, that your device is supported. If your device requires a specific build, it will be noted below. Failing to follow these directions may cause serious damage to your device!”
