Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, is currently crowdfunding a smart trash can which automatically opens when a significantly large object (like a human body) is close to it and closes back when the object moves away. This prevents flies and mosquitoes from hovering about the trash can. The sensing distance is 35 cm thus you have to be quite close before the Xiaomi smart trash can opens up. Note that the cover of this trash bin can be locked so that babies can not easily access this dirts inside. The crowdfunding price is 199 Yuan ($30) but as usual, this price might be higher when this product eventually hits the market.
