Huawei To Launch A 5G Smartphone Possibly With Kirin 980 In Mid 2019

Today, at the “Opening the New Mobile Era” sub-forum (2018 Summer Davos Forum), Huawei’s vice chairman and rotating CEO, Hu Houkun, said that the entire industry is ready for 5G mobile phones and other associated devices. He also revealed that Huawei will launch a 5G smartphone in mid-2019. This is somewhat contrary to what Huawei’s chairman, Liang Hua, stated some weeks ago regarding the maturity of Huawei’s 5G technology.

Hu Houkun said that 5G can bring us faster speed, lower latency, and better interoperability. When compared with the 4G era, 5G  smartphone and internet products will be astonishing and when this tech is applied to other industries like tourism, education, retail, sports, etc., will have unexpected effects. Hu Houkun said that Huawei will definitely carry out the upgrading of some smartphones. Huawei will launch some new generation mobile phones in the middle of 2019 and they will use 5G he said.

Kirin 980 which was released at the IFA show earlier this month has paved the way for 5G technology. It is the first to match the baseband with LTE Cat.21. The industry’s highest downlink rate is 1.4Gbps, including 4×4 MIMO 1.2Gbps (three-carrier aggregation) and 2×2 MIMO 200Mbps. It supports 256QAM and is the fastest 4.5G. product. In addition, Kirin 980 can also choose to independently utilize Balong 5000 which fully supporting 5G.
