Honor believes that foldable smartphones do not improve the user experience

During the presentation of the new Honor View 20 smartphone, the TechRadar guys spoke with George Zhao, President of Honor, and asked the manager if the company plans to launch a foldable smartphone.

He said : “We are thoroughly researching the foldable phones, but for us it is about experience. From the point of view of technology, it’s good, but why do we need a foldable phone? What can the user experience offer?”.

He added : “Maybe it’s two phones together? That is too thick and it is not convenient. From my point of view, technology needs to provide the best experience to improve the service. That is more important”.

Zhao’s comments on the state of foldable phones appear to be different from that of Huawei. Honor and Huawei share a research and development center, so similar technology is often seen in the two brands.

Huawei CEO Richard Yu has confirmed his plans to launch a foldable device with 5G connectivity at MWC 2019. Zhao has also dedicated some words to what can be expected in future smartphones in relation to the notch.

“In the future for Honor there will be less notches in the smartphone, we will go with the best solution. The notches are too big. We spent a lot of time studying this technology (perforated cameras)”.

“Honor is a brand for young people who use smartphones for games and videos. So we consider the best way to serve the user and not impact the user experience. The notch really impacts the experience, most of the time the piercing is invisible and does not affect what you are doing”.

Absolutely no need to have a folding phone, it’s a gimmick that offers little to no benefit
