HMD partnership with Pixelworks will bring HDR displays for future Nokia phones

HMD has just expanded its partnership with Pixelworks – the company that is behind Nokia’s 7.1 beautiful HDR PureDisplay. The new elongated deal will ensure that future Nokia smartphones will come with the very same technology featured by the recent premium midrange smartphone.

Pixelworks is known for making HDR tone mapping, support for HDR 10 content and real-time SDR to HDR converting possible. The Nokia 7.1 HDR-enabled PureDisplay was well received by customers, and the news about future Nokia smartphones featuring the same technology will be another good selling point.

Currently, it’s hard to estimate which future Nokia phone from HMD will be the next in line to feature an HDR display, but there’s a strong chance that the Nokia 9 PureView sports the technology. Since the Nokia 7.1 isn’t a flagship, there’s a good chance that the partnership will not only reach premium smartphones, but also some midrange handsets in Nokia’s portfolio.
