The huge expansion of Xiaomi globally has led the company to burn the stages. To keep expectations high, the company that now boasts more than 20,000 employees has decided to make a drastic change: the whole company will move to a new headquarters.
In the new Xiaomi headquarters, 8 buildings spread over 210,000 square meters, the company will have space for all the projects dedicated to the different ecosystems and, at the same time, will be able to carry out developments dedicated to AI more rapidly.
At present, in fact, the current headquarters of Xiaomi – also in Beijing – remains confined to dense buildings, less functional to the aims of what in all respects turns out to be the fourth brand in the world in the smartphone market.
So Xiaomi will keep the current buildings, moving part of the research into the new buildings that will be inaugurated later this year. On the new campus, called Xiaomi Science and Technology Park – the brand’s ideas and projects will grow.
It is worth to mention that on June 16, 2019, the annual 618 e-commerce sales entered a unique phase. At this sales, the popularity of the Xiaomi TV in China was showcased as it took only 10 minutes to sell over 100 million yuan (∼$14.4 million). In addition, the company released a chart which shows that as of noon on June 16, the brand TV sales in the Jingdong platform ranked first, and the second place is Hisense TV.
On Tmall also, the company also ranked first in the flat-panel TV sales. Lei Jun said: “Xiaomi TV this year must be the first and we are ready to lead.” It is understood that in order to meet the 618 e-commerce war, Xiaomi full-screen 55-inch version took an 800 yuan ($116) price cut to sell for only 2199 yuan ($318). This price was active on numerous platforms including Xiaomi Mall, Youpin, Tmall, Jingdong, Suning and others.
