According to recent reports, Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei, has huge plans for Russia. The company plan to increase the number of employees in the Russian R&D center by nearly three times. By the end of 2019, Huawei plans to recruit 500 employees. In five years, it hopes to have over 1000 experts in Russia.
Huawei currently has several R&D centers in the country. However, by the end of this year, the company plans to add three new R&D centers. As of now, we do not know the exact cities for these centers. According to reports, the increase in the number of employees will make Russia the third-largest R&D base for the Chinese manufacturer.
Aruqiu Aweiji, director of the Institute of Systems Programming at the Russian Academy of Sciences, pointed out that talent shortage is a major problem facing the global IT industry. Huawei regards Russia as a talent pool and it has attracted many R&D personnel. Russia has system programming talents that meet the current needs of Huawei, such as operating system research and development. He believes that 1,500 R&D personnel are also a huge number for the Russian market. He added, “I hope that Huawei will train talents and not just poach highly paid employees from Russian companies”.
