Huawei has had a rather complicated 2019 year due to the American ban that arrived in May. The company has managed to grow year on year, but the prospects for 2020 are more complicated.
Eric Xu, one of Huawei executives, has published a New Year message to employees in which he states that the company will remain on the Entity List in 2020. The executive adds that Huawei will not grow as quickly as it did in the first half of 2019, when it achieved sales growth of 18% year-over-year.
Huawei New Year’s Message for 2020
“Survival will be our first priority. To this end, we need to remain dedicated, always put our customers first, and keep creating value. Specifically, we will focus on the following four areas: sustaining growth, improving our capabilities, optimizing our organization, and controlling risks”.
The fact that Huawei talks about survival shows the seriousness of the situation that lies ahead by 2020. The Huawei P40 will arrive in early 2020 without Google services and the company will rely on its Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) to sell it outside of China.
The manager has also noted that Huawei will replace the managers with modest efforts in 2020. Some examples of people who will be dispensed will include those who have lost their “entrepreneurial spirit”. Alongside with those who have earned their positions through personal connections. Also, employees who focus on short-term earnings at the expense of long-term successes. And people who pass problems to their successors.
“We need to more actively plan out our managerial pipeline. Every year, managers performing in the bottom 10% will be removed. Our goal is to forge capable, professional teams that brim with vitality and are primed for the fight”. says Xu.
These measures paint the image of a company that, if nothing changes, will have to tighten the belt in 2020 in view of the political situation.
