Huawei can no longer rely on what the Google group once offered with its apps and services for smartphone users. Now, like Samsung, Huawei has a new partner to provide news for Android smartphones. In order to be able to offer a portfolio of current news its users, Huawei now has an agreement with Squid. This news app has been available for Android for a long time. However, over the years, it has not been particularly popular.
Huawei has a new news partner for its own smartphones
The latter could change drastically through the partnership with Huawei. Squid is a new content partner and also integrates its news into the Huawei browser and the Huawei Assistant. Squid offers news in 29 different languages. The app is available in the Google Play Store for everyone without a Huawei smartphone.
“SQUID becomes a content partner for the news feed in the Huawei browser and in the Huawei Assistant. The Huawei Assistant can be reached if users swipe to the right (minus 1 screen). Huawei Browser and Huawei Assistant users are provided with a recommended feed with news on various topics and a variety of publishers. Huawei Browser can already be downloaded from the Huawei AppGallery. Huawei Assistant will be available for future Huawei models, but is now available for testing here . ”
The Chinese manufacturing giant is trying to do all it can to curb the effect of the US ban. Since the Huawei ban early last year, there have been a couple of unofficial ways of installing Google Apps on Huawei phones. There is now a new method that seems to work fine but does not guarantee any security.
