Realme 6 offline launch event in India gets cancelled

Amidst rising concern due to recent coronavirus cases in India, Realme has called off the Realme 6 series on-ground launch event which was supposed to take place in New Delhi on March 5th. However, the brand will still hold an online-only event to announce its new smartphones and its first fitness band dubbed as Realme band. The news comes just hours after Realme’s arch-rival Xiaomi has also cancelled its offline launch event of Redmi Note 9 series set to be held on March 12th.

The COVID-19 outbreak has been causing havoc in China and now its ripple effect is being felt across different countries including India. Originating from the Wuhan province of China, the virus, detected in December, has now spread to 77 countries and territories as well as the Diamond Princess cruise ship harboured in Yokohama, Japan. With over 92,000 cases and 3,100+ deaths, the mortality rate of the disease is comparatively low. However, it is one of the most contagious diseases as it happens to latch on individuals just like common cold and flu. And thus, governments and organizations have been avoiding public gatherings by cancelling conferences, big events.

Hence, owing to the recent cases of COVID-19 in India detected today, Realme cancels its Realme 6 series event which was open to all with tickets priced at INR 599. But now, as the brand has cancelled off the event, it will issue refunds as well as a Realme band as a token of appreciation. Anyways, the brand did promise goodies worth INR 2,500 and thus it is not surprising for them to give away their new product. Nevertheless, the launch of Realme 6 series and Realme band will be live-streamed on the brand’s official channels from 12:30 PM on March 5.
