Xiaomi Mi 8 receives MIUI 12 update in China

The world is full of custom Android skins, however, we can take MIUI as the most popular one since there is a huge part of users who buy Xiaomi smartphones just to experience their software. A few months ago, Xiaomi introduced MIUI 12 as the latest version of its software. Since then, the company has been providing updates for several of its smartphones to bring them to the latest software version. The company is even updating some of the last year’s devices to Android 10 with MIUI 12 running atop. Now, the company is updating the 2018 Mi 8 to MIUI 12. It’s the first 2018 smartphone to ship with an MIUI 12 stable update.

Unfortunately, the MIUI 12 stable update still is limited to the Chinese variants of the handset. Even in the country, the update is rolling out in batches as only a small part of users have received the update so far. Worth noting that the new firmware comes with V12.0.1.0.QEACNXM build number and it weighs in at 763MB in size. Worth noting that this phone was Xiaomi’s flagship of 2018 complete with AMOLED Display. For that reason, we expect the new MIUI 12 features including Super Wallpapers, AOD+, Dark Mode 2.0, and others to come for this handset.

Gizchina News of the week

Xiaomi has a controversial story with recent updates. However, according to the small portion of users who have received the update, it is running smoothly without any bugs so far. We need to wait and see how smooth the update will be once it reaches global smartphones. Interestingly enough, the MIUI 12 is the third MIUI update to reach the handset. The Mi 8 came with MIUI 9 and Android 8.1 Oreo. It was updated to MIUI 10 and 11 and then received Android 10. Now, we expect the MIUI 12 to keep the Android 10 base as well as a possible MIUI 13 update. Xiaomi often updates its software skin without changing the underlying Android version.
