Redmi 9 Power goes official with Snapdragon 662, 6,000mAh battery and Quad-Camera setup

Redmi 9 Power

A couple of weeks ago, Xiaomi unveiled its Chinese version of the Redmi Note 9 series. The devices hadn’t anything close to those released earlier this year. For instance, there are two variants featuring 5G connectivity and a lesser one with just 4G connectivity. Well, we all know that it’s just a matter of time until these devices escape China. The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G seems to be coming as Mi 10i, and today, the Redmi Note 9 4G is being released in India as Redmi 9 Power. The device is quite similar but brings an additional camera sensor.

Redmi 9 Power specifications

Under the hood, the Redmi 9 Power brings the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC. According to Redmi, this chipset is an incremental improvement in terms of performance when compared to the Snapdragon 665. It’s an 11nm Octa-Core chipset and will be used in a great part of budget smartphones next year. Xiaomi’s POCO M3 has very similar specs and will soon hit the Indian market. The Redmi 9 Power has 4GB of RAM and it comes with 64GB of UFS 2.1 storage or 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The device also comes with a dedicated slot for further expansion via a microSD card.

The device flaunts a 6.53-inch LCD with Full HD+ resolution, the phone has a teardrop notch at the top serving as a house for an 8MP selfie snapper. Moving around to the back, we have a rectangular camera shape comprising a Quad-Camera setup. The main sensor is a 48MP primary, an 8MP ultrawide, 2MP depth, and 2MP macro units. The device has plastic black and also brings a fingerprint texture and has a big vertical Redmi logo on it. Apparently, Redmi took some inspiration from Realme to make this design.

The budget smartphone comes with the Face AI Unlock feature and also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication. This is becoming a standard for budget Redmi smartphones. One of the main selling points of the Redmi 9 Power is its 6,000mAh battery capable of providing long hours of usage. The device supports 18W fast-charging, but Xiaomi includes a 22.5W power adapter in the box.

Other features include stereo speakers, splash proofing, IR Blaster, 3.5mm headphone jack, and reverse charging support.

Pricing and availability

The Redmi 9 Power reached India in Blazing Blue, Electric Green, Fiery Red, and Might Black colors. The 64GB variant is priced at INR 10,999 ($150/€120). The 128GB variant will set you back by INR 12,999.
