ROG Phone 4 spotted in the wild, gets 3C certification

Several months ago, Asus unleashed the ROG Phone 3 as its 2020 contender in the market of gaming smartphones. This particular niche of devices is growing exponentially every year, and the Taiwanese firm isn’t interested in losing space to other players. With a set of gaming phones scheduled to come in the first quarter of 2021, Asus will bring the new ROG Phone 4 ahead of the usual. The first teasers are starting to pop out, and today we have a leaked live shot of the upcoming handset. The image isn’t jaw-dropping if you’re already familiar with the design of the Republic of Gamers phone.

The new handset has been spotted with a Triple Camera setup

A new live image comes from the Chinese leakster WhyLab and reveals the alleged rear of the ROG Phone 4. The design is similar to the ROG Phone 3, but still, different in certain ways. The device has a triple camera setup with a 64MP leading the show. The bottom left corner also seems to house a special red button which may act as a shortcut to gaming mode.

Gizchina News of the week

The device may carry the ASUS ROG Phone 4 moniker, but anything can happen. After all, the company may adopt a new strategy this year with two gaming phones instead of a single one. As this device is an incremental upgrade, it can even come as ROG Phone 3 Pro or something like that. In Addition to the image leak, the device also got 3C certification. It bears the ASUS_I005DA model number and has 65W charging support.

Some rumors are suggesting that ASUS will skip the number 4 and launch the device as ROG Phone 5. The reason behind these rumors is associated with the fact that Chinese companies tend to skip number four since this is the most unlucky number in China. However, ASUS isn’t a Chinese company, it’s Taiwanese. The gaming phone is coming to China, but we’re not sure whether the Chinese culture will influence the company’s naming plans.

ROG Phone 4 will come with Snapdragon 888, 8GB of RAM, and Android 11

Interestingly, this is the same device (model number) that was previously benchmarked on the GeekBench platform. It carries the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 flagship SoC with 8GB of RAM and Android 11 in tow. We assume that the variant with 8GB is the “basic” one. Since this is a gaming phone, Asus may deliver variants with 12GB and even 16GB of RAM. Rumors suggest that the handset will pack a massive 6,000mAh battery.

According to recent rumors, the ROG Phone 4 will go official between March and April. A teaser image shows the Aries constellation. In astrology, it is associated with the time period between March 21 and April 19. Coincidence or not, we are expecting the Black Shark 4 to reach the market in this same launch window.

Black Shark and Asus are making their moves right now in the gaming range. iQOO is set to launch the iQOO 7 with Snapdragon 888 soon, but it also feels like a standard smartphone. For now, we’re waiting for Red Magic to make its move with its new gaming phone.
