Upcoming Redmi smartphone to use a “microscope” camera

Redmi K40 Pro+ or Xiaomi Mi 11x

Yesterday, OPPO released the Find X3 series of smartphones which features a 60x microscope camera that can shoot macro images. Today, Xiaomi’s Redmi product director Wang Teng said on Weibo, “The telephoto macro is a feature that Xiaomi first launched last year. It’s great to see more brands launching similar features together”.

He added “Breaking news: We are also continuing to upgrade this feature and use new cameras to shoot. I took a macro photo. Guess what it is?”

This suggests that Redmi will upgrade its camera department and also use a microscope camera. The company is already developing this camera and it was used to shoot some crystals. Probably sodium glutamate crystals. As of now, there is no information on the device to come with this new camera for Redmi. However, this device should be a high-end smartphone with a competitive price.

The 2020 Redmi K30 Pro comes with a telephoto macro lens. This phone also uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor as well as a pop-up front camera. The telephoto macro lens of this phone uses a Samsung S5K5E9 sensor and an equivalent focal length 50mm. The closest focusing distance of this lens is 3cm. According to users’ actual measurements, it can barely capture the pixel arrangement of the mobile phone screen.

Although Redmi used this camera to get a full screen, the company complained that this solution consumes too much space internally. Since then, the pop-up camera solution is not very popular with Redmi anymore. The company seems to prefer the punch-hole solution presently.

Redmi K30 has sold over 11 million worldwide

At the launch of the flagship Redmi K40 series, Lu Weibing, Vice President of Xiaomi Group, President of Xiaomi China and General Manager of the Redmi brand, shared the success of the previous line, the Redmi K30. Despite the scarcity and supply disruptions, sales of the Redmi K30 series have surpassed 11 million units in the international market.
