Moto G50 goes official with Snapdragon 480 SoC and 90Hz display

Moto G50

The Motorola Ibiza is finally reaching the shelves, gone is the Mediterranean-themed name to make room for the Moto G50 moniker. This is a budget smartphone that goes a level beyond other devices such as the Moto G10 and Moto G30. The reason? It brings 5G connectivity thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 SoC in tow. This is the first smartphone to reach the European smartphone with this chipset and the price is quite attractive for those who need a budget 5G handset.

Moto G50 specifications

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G not only brings 5G connectivity but also stands as a better option than the Snapdragon 460. It is based on a modern 8nm process and brings Cortex-A76 big cores alongside a better GPU. The Moto G50 packs a 6.5-inch panel with HD+ resolution. Despite the low resolution, the phone has a 90hz refresh rate. Particularly, I love seeing that companies are bringing high-refresh-rate screens even on-budget smartphones with HD+ resolution. This allows more customers to enjoy the smoothness of a high-refresh-rate display. Of course, eyes used to the FHD+ resolution will feel a lack of sharpness here and there.

Gizchina News of the week

The Moto G50 brings a waterdrop notch that serves as a home for the selfie snapper. Moving around to the back, the handset has a main 48MP camera. Unfortunately, it does not bring an ultrawide camera. Instead, you have a 5MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Honestly, these sensors are here just to make numbers as they’re far from being really capable. The handset draws power from a huge 5,000mAh battery, but unfortunately, the phone is capped with 15W fast-charging. To make things worse, the retail package only brings a 10W charging brick.

Moto G50

In certain regions, the Moto G50 comes with a headset in the box. As you may expect, the phone includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a plus in these days of portless smartphones. Motorola also states that the phone’s body has a water repellent design. However, don’t take it to a bath or swimming. It is probably there to prevent damage from sweat or accidental splashes. The phone also has a USB-C port, NFC, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The Moto G50 will reach European markets in a few weeks. The €250 price stands for the 4GB / 64GB variant. Some countries will also get a version with 128GB of Internal Storage. Others still will get the base version at €229 due to tax variations.
