Microsoft canceled Windows 10X and will improve regular Windows 10

Windows 10X

Microsoft has decided to delay the release of the new Windows 10X operating system. Apparently, the company won’t release the OS until the end of the year. This was announced by insider Brad Sams. We do not know he reasons yet, but instead, the company will focus on improving Windows 10.

The main goal of Windows 10X development was to create a lightweight and optimized version of Windows 10. It is here for tablets with one or two screens. The developers deliberately simplified the interface, removed the “live tile” from the Start menu for improved performance, and much more.

According to Sams, the OS will never come out in its current form. He believes that potential customers do not need a new system, but certain features that can be implemented in Windows 10. Among them, launching applications in a secure virtual environment and a new interface.

According to The Verge, it is likely that the goal behind the new OS was to be more competitive with Chromebooks, which Microsoft sees as a threat. However, due to the pandemic, the demand for Windows computers has increased. Perhaps the company postponed the release because of this.

According to Windows Central, the next major update for Windows 10 will be Sun Valley. Presumably, the developers will change the Start menu and allow the creators of applications for the Microsoft Store to use third-party payment services to pay for services.

Microsoft will get rid of old system icons in Windows 10

Microsoft will finally update the icons in its operating system, some of which have been in use since Windows 95. The appearance of new system icons was announced in March this year; and now it has become known that Microsoft will replace all outdated icons.

Enthusiasts have discovered new system icons for hibernation, network, floppy drives and more in the preview versions of Windows 10 currently being tested by insiders. These icons refer to the shell32.dll library; which is a key part of the user interface and is used to display icons in various dialog boxes of the operating system.

The work to improve the consistency of the look and feel of Windows 10 is part of an ambitious plan; to update many of the user interface elements that is part of the Sun Valley Project (Windows 10 21H2 Update). This update will be available to a wide range of users in October-November this year; and will bring with it not only new features, but also a redesigned interface.

Microsoft has been slow to disclose details regarding the Sun Valley update; and the future look of the Windows 10 interface. More information should come out during the Microsoft Build developer conference later this month.
