Oppo Reno5 Gaming Edition emerges in listing

Oppo Reno5 Gaming Edition

Oppo launched its Oppo Reno5 series several months ago in China. In addition to the standard trio, the company launched multiple variants under this lineup. Nowadays, we’re not expecting much for the Reno5 series as the company already has an Oppo Reno6 series in China and is planning to bring it to India next week. However, a new EUIPO certification listing suggests that the company is not done with its Reno5 device. Apparently, there is an Oppo Reno5 Gaming Edition under the wraps.

The listing reveals a couple of renders for the smartphones revealing all of its sides. The Reno5 Gaming Edition has the same camera cutout as the Reno5. However, the design is way more aggressive here. This seems to be a standard for gaming smartphones, however, it still is a lightweight design if we compare it with the likes of ROG Phone, BlackShark, and RedMagic series (save the RedMagic 6R). The company seems to be betting on something close to the Redmi K40 Gaming Enhanced Edition which has an aggressive design if you compare it with a standard gaming smartphone. However, is less aggressive than conventional gaming smartphones.

Gizchina News of the week

Oppo Reno5 Gaming Edition features and design

The Reno5 Gaming Edition has the basic design of its sibling with the power button on the right and volume controls on the left. Apparently, there aren’t physical triggers here. The handset has a USB-C port on the bottom alongside a 3.5mm headphone jack and a speaker. Talking about the camera setup, it sports a Quad-Camera setup just like its siblings. Unfortunately, the EUIPO certification does not bring many hardware details about the handset. We’ll have to wait for more clues surrounding this yet-to-be-released Oppo smartphone.

Now that the Oppo Reno5 series is already a thing from the past, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this design returning with an Oppo Reno6 Gaming Edition moniker. This would not be a surprise, after all, the Oppo Reno6 series still has a design very close to the Reno5 series. So Oppo can re-use this design on a future gaming smartphone.

We aren’t surprised in seeing a gaming smartphone, or at least the first scraps of gaming smartphone from Oppo. The Chinese smartphone brand is constantly exploring new technologies and pushing trends forward. It certainly wants to catch a slice of this market that is getting more competitors every year.

The Oppo Reno5 Gaming Phone or Reno6 Gaming Phone may also be a more affordable alternative sporting a Dimensity 1200 chip. This is the case with the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition. We expect more details to emerge soon.
