Samsung hopes to triple sales of foldable smartphones this year

After the official announcement of the duo of smartphones with flexible displays Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, top managers of Samsung talked about how many such devices are planned for sale by the end of the year.

Bryan Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Strategic Marketing, said in an interview that the company expects to ship 6.5 million smartphones with flexible displays during this year. This indicator was calculated in cooperation with specialists from Strategy Analytics.

For the first time, devices with flexible displays entered the market in 2019, and the company managed to sell 0.7 million units, in 2020 the market volume increased to 2.2 million units. In 2021, analysts predicted the demand for smartphones of this type will amount to 6.5 million, exceeds the specified bar.

“With the new Galaxy Z series, we’re bringing foldable innovations to more consumers by breaking down the barriers of entry with our pricings. I am confident that with our new Galaxy Z series, we can drive record high demand for foldables; inviting even more consumers to enjoy this new way of using their smartphone”. said the executive vice president of Samsung.

He also added, citing the company’s own market research, that 9 out of 10 owners of foldable devices no longer want to go back to the traditional form factor.
