Poco Smartwatch, Tablet Coming Soon?, Global Head Teases Possibility

Poco M4 Pro 5G

It looks like Poco is set to expand its product portfolio with a Poco smartwatch and a Poco tablet. In other words, the Chinese smartphone company could be gearing up to make its foray into the smartwatch and tablet segments. Poco’s value-added products continue to garner popularity among users in India and various other markets. The company has been ensuring that its product offerings target every segment including budget-conscious buyers. Aside from that, Poco offers products in the mid-range and premium mid-range categories as well.

Poco Smartwatch & Poco Tablet In The Works?

As a result, Poco reaches a wider demographic. Now, the company is gearing up to announce the global availability of the Poco M4 Pro on November 9. Still riding high on the success of its previously launched smartphones, Poco is now planning to expand its product portfolio into the wearable and tablet segment. Before the official unveiling of the M4 Pro smartphone, the company’s head of product marketing, Angus Ng has shed light on Poco’s ecosystem and the plan to expand its product portfolio. During an interview with Android Authority, Angus divulged details about the ecosystem products.

Angus noted that nothing was off-limits, but it is important to “start small at first.” As far as ecosystem products are concerned, Angus insisted that they will not deviate from the brand and product philosophy. Furthermore, Angus noted that they plan to avoid taking risks and take precautions in the beginning. Considering that the company plans to eventually go big, we can expect it to launch products like wearables, power banks, and even audio products in a bid to build an ecosystem.

Poco Tablets

The company doesn’t seem to be gearing up to make its foray into the tablet segment citing the cut-throat competition in the tablet space. However, Angus admitted that tablets have propelled skyrocketing popularity amid the pandemic. Since the market is already teeming with all sorts of tablets, it is more challenging for Poco to enter the already crowded segment. The company is currently focusing on the imminent launch of the Poco M4 Pro. The smartphone went official in China as the Redmi Note 11. Poco has a reputation for placing its logo on top of devices from Redmi and Xiaomi.

Software

As part of its product portfolio expansion plan, the company wants to separate its software from MIUI. The Poco launcher in Poco smartphones is the only notable differentiating factor at the moment. According to Poco Global head Kevin Qiu, the company is considering introducing more customizations for the software. This will ensure it aligns with the company’s hardware designs.

Qiu said that Poco is currently discussing the software updates with the MIUI team. Moreover, he did not confirm that the brand will start rolling out OS updates for three years. Also, he did not say it will deliver security patches for years. Currently, he insisted that the brand will stick to offering “two plus three” for all Poco devices.

POCO X3 Pro

Although Poco has a phone that packs the Snapdragon 870 chipset. However, it is yet to unveil a phone with Snapdragon 888 SoC. After carrying out some internal tests, and talking to their R&D and product managers, the company found that last year’s Snapdragon 865 is a good chipset. The Snapdragon 865 delivers superior performance as far as cooling and stability are concerned. It retained all the aforesaid attributes and became even better. With Poco devices packing Snapdragon 888 chipset, power consumption and overheating was major concern.
