Galaxy S22

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 series has been a target of multiple leaks in the past few days. The upcoming flagship smartphones are expected for the first quarter of 2021 and will bring some bold improvements. The Galaxy S22 Ultra will be the most intriguing smartphone with a new design language reminiscent of the Note series and also an S Pen slot. The Galaxy S22 and S22+ will be modest upgrades over their predecessors, but will still be significant when we take the performance unit into consideration. Moreover, a new report suggests that the upcoming Samsung devices are also bringing significant changes in terms of cameras.

Galaxy S22 series camera info leaked

Today, the reputed tipster Ice Universe detailed the cameras of the vanilla and Plus Galaxy S22 models. Both will use the same hardware. The main camera will be a 50 MP snapper, it’s a 1/1.57″ sensor with 1.0 µm pixels and an f/1.8 aperture. The unit is in line with the Samsung GN5 and Sony IMX766 sensors, and in fact, it could use both. It’s not a secret that Samsung tends to dual source the camera sensors of its devices.

The Galaxy S22 and S22+ will have significant changes in the telephoto camera. It will switch from the current lossless digital zoom approach to a more traditional optical zoom with 3x magnification. The sensor will be a 10 MP unit with f/2.4 aperture,  1/3.94″ optical format, and 1.0 µm pixels. Joining those will be a 12 MP sensor for the ultra-wide camera. There is a 1/2.55″ in size with 1.4 µm pixels and an f/2.2 aperture. This is essentially the same as on the Galaxy S21 series.

As far as selfies and video calls is concerned, we have the same camera as on the S21/S21+ models. That means that a 10 MP camera with 1/3.24″, 1.22 µm pixel size, and f/2.2 aperture will take the lead here.

A previous leak has detailed the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. The boldest model of the lineup will, unsurprisingly, have the most advanced camera setup. The main camera is a 108 MP unit which is an improved HM3 sensor. There is also a 12 MP ultrawide, a 10 MP 10x periscope, and a 10 MP 3x telephoto module. The selfie camera is rumored to have 40 MP resolution, just like for the previous two Galaxy S Ultras.

Display details

As far as other specs are concerned, the S22 will have a compact 6.06-inch display, whereas the S22+ will have a 6.55-inch panel. Both devices will have Full HD+ resolution and AMOLED displays. Both of these displays are flat. The S22 Ultra, on the other hand, is expected to come with a 6.8-inch display with Quad HD+ resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and curved edges.
