Redmi K50 series smartphone passes by Geekbench with SD870

Redmi K50 series

Xiaomi is gearing up to reveal the Redmi K50 series in China. Just a couple of days back a Redmi K50 series smartphone featuring Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 passed by multiple certification websites. Now, in a recent development, a Xiaomi Smartphone believed to belong to the Redmi K50 series, has passed by the Geekbench 5 website with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC. Apparently, Xiaomi is going another round with the Snapdragon 870 SoC.

Redmi K50 will reutilize the Snapdragon 870 SoC

The new smartphone passed by the Geekbench benchmark with the model number 22021211RC. Apparently, it’s one of the Redmi K50 series variants, not the highest one, after all, it is believed to come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The Xiaomi 22021211RC scored 963 points in the single-core tests of the Geekbench 5. When it comes to the multi-core department, the device recorded 3,123 points. These results are, so far, okay for a Snapdragon 870-powered smartphone. Interestingly, the listing also confirms the device will come with a Qualcomm processor with a “munch” codename. As a result, we can conclude it’s the Snapdragon 870 SoC.

Gizchina News of the week

The chipset’s choice may be a disappointment for some users. After all, the last year’s Redmi K40 was launched with this very same chipset. The device reached the Indian market as Xiaomi Mi 11X and global markets with the POCO F3 moniker. So, to make this device attractive, we expect Xiaomi to offer more than this chipset. Perhaps an upgrade in cameras and charging technology, or else, it will be priced lower than its predecessor. We assume that the Snapdragon 870 should be cheaper in 2022, but we can’t predict these things in an industry plagued with shortages.

Anyway, the Geekbench listing also confirms the Redmi K50 series smartphone will pack 12 GB of RAM. It will also run Android 12 straight out of the box, and we can assume it will reach the market with MIUI 13.

Design teased

Recently, the design render and the case for the rumored Redmi K50 Pro were leaked on the web. According to the leaked information, the handset will come with a triple rear camera setup which is hardly a surprise. Curiously, it will come with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner even though the device has an AMOLED screen. Apparently, Xiaomi wants to establish the side-mounted fingerprint as a standard for the Redmi K-series. That’s quite surprising for a lineup that started with full-screen smartphones with in-display scanners and pop-up cameras.

Lu Weibing is already teasing the launch of the new smartphones in China. In fact, rumors suggest the Redmi K50 series will launch in the country as soon as in the next month. We expect them to reach international markets including India at the end of this quarter.

If Xiaomi put in this phone good optical sensors from Sony ( 64 Mpx, Sony IMX682 Exmor RS ), OIS and fast Charge 120W, and why not IP67 or IP68, good price, then this phone will be super.
