OnePlus 10R will have impressive hardware for a mid-range device

Last year, OnePlus has officially became a sub-brand of Oppo. This entailed not only a reduction in staff, but also a change in strategy. The company has ditched the OnePlus 9T release and arranged the OnePlus 10 Pro to debut early in China only. It will reach the global market at the beginning of the second quarter, and with it, two more new products will appear: OnePlus 10 and OnePlus 10R.

OnePlus 10R will have impressive hardware for a mid-range device

Previously, there were rumors on the net that the OnePlus 10 will receive the Dimensity 9000 chipset and this will be the first time that the company’s flagship device series will offer a processor from MediaTek. But Androidcentral, citing a reliable source, denied this assumption, saying that Dimensity 9000 is intended for the OnePlus 9R. As you know, the new processor from MediaTek has everything to compete with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in pure processing power.

It seems that OnePlus 10, like its Pro version, will receive Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and this choice is dictated by the fact that this model will enter the North American market. The Dimensity 9000 has a built-in 5G modem with 5G global bands, but it’s limited to Sub-6 and lacks mmWave connectivity. Whereas US networks rely on mmWave for 5G coverage, the lack of connectivity in this band automatically makes the Dimensity 9000 an unfortunate choice for the popularity of the OnePlus 10 in several markets.

Therefore, it is only logical that MediaTek’s new flagship processor will form the basis of the OnePlus 10R, which will target India and China. The smartphone has an AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz; at least 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of memory. The device must be running the Android 12 operating system with the OxygenOS 12 or ColorOS 12 shell; based on the market where it will be available.

OnePlus may return to the production of “flagship killers” – affordable smartphones with powerful features

During the past years, OnePlus built a reputation for delivering flagship smartphones at an affordable price point. For this, the company’s devices were even called “flagship killers”. OnePlus smartphones have grown in price over time, equaling this indicator with flagship products from other manufacturers. However, now it seems that the brand intends to return to its roots.

The authoritative Chinese tech blog Digital Chat Station stated that OnePlus is working on a new range of smartphones; the main features of which will be high performance and gaming-oriented, as well as an affordable price. Reports point that smartphones of the new series in China will cost from $315 to $475. As a rule, the cost of smartphones in other countries exceeds the Chinese; but it is unlikely that the prices of new products will reach the level of other flagships.

Digital Chat Station reports that the smartphones of the new series will be running on the basis of flagship chipsets and will receive flat displays. We do not yet know more characteristics details, including the models of chipsets in use. Potentially, these can be either the current Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or MediaTek Dimensity 9000; or solutions from past years, such as the Snapdragon 888, which is also very good for the cost.

In order to reduce the cost of new products, OnePlus will make a number of compromises; regarding, for example, cameras, moisture protection, support for wireless charging, or other minor functions. Unfortunately, there are no more details about OnePlus’ new “flagship killers” yet, however, they will probably start to appear soon.
