Xiaomi and Lenovo are working normally in Russia – new report reveals

Xiaomi

Since the commencement of the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, there have been multiple reports regarding what goes on in these countries. While the Russian media project all the positive stories about Russia, the European, British and American media project all the negative news about Russia. Perhaps only the Asian and African media remains indifferent to this crisis. Nevertheless, irrespective of our individual inclination, the truth is what it is. The latest conflicting report on the Russia – Ukraine conflict involves two Chinese manufacturers, Xiaomi and Lenovo.

A few days ago, The Wall Street Journal (American media) claims that due to sanctions and pressure from US suppliers, some Chinese companies are suspending supplies to Russia. The report claims that the among the companies are Xiaomi, Lenovo and others.

WSJ’s report has no truth in it – Kommersant

However, in a counter-report, Kommersant (Russian media), claims that there is no truth in the report. Kommersant refuting the Wall Street Journal’s claims cited IT expert Sergey Vilyanov. Sergey claims that the supply of Lenovo and Xiaomi devices was suspended in March due to logistics. However, all issues with logistics and payments are now over. He said, “…the story is completely false. The Wall Street Journal is giving Americans the information they want to hear, and the truth is completely different.”

Gizchina News of the week

Sergey Vilyanov said that the order in February this year (Lenovo, Xiaomi, etc.) arrived in Russia in mid-April. Although there were some delays, it did arrive. Now there are two problems, one is logistics because there are many restrictions and the other is payment. Of course, this is because it is now very difficult to pay in euros.

As far as I can tell, the payment issue was resolved in mid-April. In May the distributor is waiting to deliver using the new technology. Xiaomi officials in Russia have also not announced any closures or terminations of supplies.

In December last year, one out of every five smartphones sold in Russia was of the Xiaomi brand.

These conflicting report has been the norm since the beginning of the crisis. The majority of reports from Europe, Britain and America are so positive toward Ukraine. Similarly, the reports out of Russia present the country in a positive light. Unfortunately, technology companies which we care about are in the midst of all these conflicting reports. As for the reports on Lenovo and Xiaomi, there are no official reports from these companies. It will be best to get an official response from these companies as they will be the most reliable.
