Apple is currently working on the iPhone 15 series which should launch this fall. Although this device has some months before its launch, there have been several reports regarding these devices. There are reports that Apple wants users to have a more expensive high-end version of the iPhone 15 series. Thus, the top model, iPhone 15 Ultra, will receive a major upgrade. The iPhone 15 Ultra will come with a 12MP periscope telephoto lens. It will be the first iPhone to use a periscope lens in Apple’s history. If this report is true, the iPhone 15 Ultra will support a 6x optical zoom with the periscope lens. This will be an upgrade to the iPhone 14 Pro Max which supports 3x optical zoom.

Apple is several years behind in periscope technology. At present, many Android flagship models use periscope telephoto lenses. The Samsung Galaxy S22 uses a periscope telephoto lens and the phone can achieve 10x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom.

In addition to the periscope telephoto, the iPhone 15 Ultra will also come with an A17 Bionic chip based on a 3nm process. This device will also use 8GB of RAM and a new USB Type-C interface. In terms of screen, like the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the iPhone 15 Ultra still uses a 6.7 inches display that supports Apple ProMotion. The refresh rate can be adaptively adjusted according to the usage scenario.

Editor’s comment:

The unsatisfactory sales of the iPhone 14 Plus seem to make Apple realize that there should be more changes in the next generation of phones. Some analysts believe that the iPhone 15 Pro series may not use an 8P lens. With the in-depth research and development of Android phones in camera capacity, Apple seems to be pushed away by Android this time. Apple does not seem to care much about what Android has. This is why this feature is coming several years late.
