Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 specs leak – to use a periscope telephoto sensor

At the moment, there are not many brands with foldable mobile phones in the market. Samsung has the most foldable devices as well as market share globally. Initially, Huawei and Samsung were on par in the foldable market. However, after the U.S. ban on Huawei, the company could not keep up. Other Chinese brands did not do much to claim Huawei’s foldable market share. Thus, Samsung had an almost free ride. Chinese brands like Xiaomi eventually launched the Xiaomi MIX Fold as well as the MIX Fold 2. Now, we have one of the earliest reports about the third-gen foldable mobile phone from the company, Xiaomi MIX Fold 3.

The recent report regarding this device is that it will come with a periscope telephoto sensor. Obviously, Xiaomi is trying to make up for the “poor” camera of the previous generation. Recall that the previous generation, Xiaomi MIX 2 comes with an 8MP 2x telephoto camera. Thus, the periscope telephoto camera will come with a higher optical zoom effect.

Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 to improve the camera

The periscope telephoto lens idea is drawn from the periscope, but the light transmission line is changed. The modification ensures that the level of the lens is different from the sensor of the main camera.

The key benefit of periscope telephoto lenses over standard telephoto lenses is that they allow mobile phones to capture more distant sights. For example, the Mi MIX 4’s 8-megapixelMP periscope telescopic lens allows 5x optical zoom and 50x hybrid zoom. In addition, the zoom effect is much greater than that of the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2.

It is expected that the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 with a periscope telephoto lens would deliver improved image performance. This device will maintain the previous generation’s tiny and light design. However, it will come with an under-screen camera tech. This device will have a full-screen and there will not be a notch or a punch-hole design.
