A new report from market research agency data.ai, ChatGPT has been downloaded more than 500,000 times within 6 days of its launch in the Apple App Store. OpenAI’s ChatGPT app has become more popular than chatbots such as Bing Chat and other third-party apps that use GPT-4. Microsoft’s Bing and Edge browsers had their best 5-day performance in February this year (including Android and iOS), with 340,000 and 335,000 downloads, respectively. In this case, the download of over 500,000 is for the iOS system only. Also, the report reveals that in the U.S. alone, the first five days saw a download exceeding 480,000.

The ChatGPT app is a generative AI-based chatbot that allows users to interact with it using their iPhones. It also supports voice input through OpenAI’s speech recognition system Whisper. The app is available for free download and excludes ads. Users can also subscribe to the ChatGPT Plus service, which costs $20 per month in the U.S., directly through the iOS app. ChatGPT Plus users can access advanced features through GPT-4.

OpenAI has expanded the availability of its ChatGPT app for iOS users in India and 32 other countries. The startup, backed by Microsoft and marquee VC, plans to release the app in additional regions.
