Internal Documents Revealed Multiple Versions of Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4

Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4

We’ve been hearing about the Qualcomm Oryon cores for quite a while now. For those unaware, the Oryon cores are Qualcomm’s first custom high-performance ARM cores after the original Kryo. Codenamed ‘Hamoa,’ the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 will mark the debut of Qualcomm’s latest chipset featuring these cores.

As we’ve learned from the previous announcements from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 will aim for Windows devices. It’s basically Qualcomm’s answer to Apple’s M-series SoCs. Earlier indications suggested a 12-core design for the chipset. But internal documents from Qualcomm are now hinting at different versions with different configurations.

More About the Different Versions of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4

According to the internal documents, the Hamoa chipsets have a total of six different versions. They are: SC8380, SC8380XP, SC8350, SC8350X, SC8370, and SC8370XP. Out of the six versions, the first two Snapdragon Hamoa chips are the known 12-core variants. These 8cx Gen 4 versions feature four efficiency cores and eight high-performance cores, respectively.

Interestingly, the SC8370 has six performance cores, while the SC8350 has four. Of course, all of them have the same number of efficiency cores. That means the SC8370 and SC8350 have a total of ten and eight cores, respectively.

Qualcomm is also planning to clock each of the chipsets differently. This suggests the possibility of both regular Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 and 8cx Gen 4 Plus versions being released. That said, not all of the six models may retain the 8cx naming. The internal documents suggest that the two 12-core versions will come with that name.

The remaining versions are expected to debut under the Snapdragon 8c and 7c model numbers. In other words, the other versions of the chipset will be in the lower series. At this point, it’s not clear whether Qualcomm will release Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 and other Hamoa chipsets.

But according to the last announcement from Qualcomm, the new Hamoa chips should come out in October of this year. It’s the same event that will debut the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
