Are You Being Tracked? This New Android 14 Feature Has the Answer

Android 14 Tracker Alerts

Last month, Google announced that it would be rolling out the ‘Unknown Tracker Alerts’ for Android users. And as per the announcement, the feature has now arrived on Android 14. With this feature, users can easily know whether an object tracker is tracking them.

This Android 14 feature considers two different scenarios. First, it will alert you when someone has placed an unknown tracker on you, informing you of being tracked. Second, it can detect whether someone with a tracker is traveling alongside you. The feature lets you track the tracker and take the necessary steps in both cases.

At the moment, the feature is currently live on Samsung Galaxy smartphones and Google Pixel running Android 14. And as of now, the tracker alert feature only works for Apple AirTags. Google plans to expand the feature to more devices and add support for more object trackers in the future.

The tracker tracking feature is on by default on phones with Android 14. To check whether it’s on your phone, follow these steps:

Gizchina News of the week

  • Head over to Settings.
  • Click on Safety & Emergency or Personal Safety.
  • Tap on Unknown Tracker Alerts.

According to Google, if you turn off the alert feature, your Android 14 phone will not automatically scan for trackers that are traveling with you. Also, alongside the automatic scanning, users can perform a manual scan. It’s a 10-second process that scans your surroundings to see whether there’s a tracker.

Manual Tracking and Additional Steps

The results of the manual scan will not be saved on your phone. And once your Android phone detects a tracker, it will let show you a map. In this map, you can see from which location the tracker has been tracking you. And upon pressing the ‘Next Steps,’ you can access safety instructions for dealing with tracking incidents.

Overall, this Android 14 feature fortifies the safety of the users. And we would definitely like to see more tracking devices being added to the support list soon. After all, there are many different object-tracking devices available in the market.
