Honor Magic6 On-Device LLM is different from Cloud LLMs
Honor’s on-device LLM is quite different from the popular cloud LLMs. Its workability is tied to the user, such that it offers a custom service based on the user’s needs. This is different from Cloud LLMs which use publicly accessible datasets. Honor and Qualcomm had to work together to come up with an on-device LLM that users can enjoy for their everyday activities. They focused on three core areas as shown below
- Performance
- Efficiency
- User privacy
The joint efforts resulted in optimizations that allow the mobile platform to take advantage of the LLM effectively. The company said that this feature does not draw a large amount of power. Honor also claims that data protection ensures that all user data remains safe and secure on the device.
The on-device LLM with seven billion parameters will usher in a new era of generative AI according to Honor. The company also showcased the power of its AI in the video below. Honor released the demo AI video (video below) during its presentation. With a simple command prompt for the on-device smart voice assistant YOYO, users can easily create short videos featuring photos and footage stored on their devices. Templates, themes, and music for the videos can also be custom, with more prompts for custom results.

At Snapdragon Summit 2023, Honor also showed an eye-tracking-based multimodal interaction called Magic Capsule. The company also showcased the three key features of MagicRing. These features are the
- Connected Camera
- Connected Input
- Multi-device screen sharing.
Leveraging the latest Snapdragon Seamless technology, MagicRing allows for a greater variety of data to seamlessly move between devices. Honor claims that this new technology is more stable as well as more power-efficient than ever.
Moving forward, Honor said that it will remain open to collaborating with global partners. The company will continue its drive to cultivate an ecosystem of on-device AI technology. Honor also reveals that it will continue to contribute to the wider industry with human-centric innovation for an intelligent future.
Conclusion
Honor positions the Honor Magic6 as a mobile phone that can transform the mobile industry with its on-device LLM. The device comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and will feature an on-device LLM with seven billion parameters to usher in a new era of generative AI. The on-device LLM is distinct from cloud LLMs which make use of publicly accessible datasets. Honor’s on-device LLM draws from its understanding of the device’s users to provide custom services according to personal needs. Honor and Qualcomm are working together to make effective use of LLM without compromising power or data protection. What do you think about Honor’s on-device LLM?
