In a move signaling Xiaomi’s growing ambitions within the automotive industry, CEO Lei Jun has announced a leadership restructuring with a focus on bolstering the electric vehicle (EV) business.

“Xiaomi SU7 is undergoing extensive road testing across China, and we’re finalizing preparations for its launch,” Lei Jun stated on Weibo. “To dedicate more attention to the automobile business, I’ve delegated the general management of the Xiaomi brand to Liu Weibing. Currently, he is the President of the Group. He will also be the presenter at future Xiaomi conferences focused on smartphones, starting with the Xiaomi Mi 14 Ultra.”

This shift emphasizes the company’s commitment to its EV aspirations. Despite this strategic move, Lei Jun reassured stakeholders. “Rest assured, the mobile phone business remains Xiaomi’s core, and I will continue to invest significant energy in it.”

As part of the leadership changes, Liu Weibing transitions from President of Xiaomi China to oversee the entire Mobile division. Including public presentations at major smartphone launches. He steps down as head of the Redmi brand, passing the baton to Wang Teng Thomas. Wang brings extensive experience to the role, having previously served as Director of New Xiaomi Products and leading a regional Chinese office.
