Affordable Samsung Galaxy S24 FE could launch sooner than expected

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE

FE smartphones from Samsung have always been headline grabbers. Take last year’s Galaxy S23 FE, for example. It launched with most of the features that the flagship Galaxy S23 came with. But the FE device came at a fraction of the price. As expected, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is also on the way.

However, it seems that the Galaxy S24 FE will launch sooner than expected. A Samsung supplier has reportedly started the mass production of display driver chips for the device (source). This report comes with an expected launch timeline, which hints at a potential launch this summer.

More About the Current Progress on the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE

As per the report, Samsung has secured the display driver ICs for the upcoming smartphone. For those unaware, display driver ICs are responsible for interfacing the display panel with the SoC. It’s a crucial component that every smartphone has. And as production has kicked off at a massive scale, the phone might be on the horizon. For those wondering, the ICs are coming from a Korean-based manufacturer called Anapass (official website link).

Speaking of the display, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE will reportedly come with an OLED panel. Reports have also suggested that the display driver will employ chip-on-film packaging. These two means that the screen will be flagship-grade. Looking back, the predecessor, S23 FE, came with a beautiful-looking display.

To be exact, the display of the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE was one of the major selling points. Considering that the S24 FE is a successor, these reports do seem to be on point. Another thing to note is that Samsung has worked with Anapass before. This, again, gives credibility to this report.

Other Expected Specs of the Smartphone

Like the predecessor, the upcoming affordable flagship will likely bring great specs. It may even be as great as the other flagship phones that Samsung has in its current Galaxy S24 lineup. As spilled by a known leaker @OreXda, the upcoming FE phone will either pack the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or the Exynos 2400.

Samsung Exynos

Samsung has integrated both these two chipsets inside the current Galaxy S24 lineup. And both of them are powerhouses, meaning that the S24 FE could be a very capable smartphone. But you need to note one important thing here. The chipset that you will get in the phone will depend on the region from which you’re purchasing it.

Samsung does this with their smartphones all the time. For example, it sells Snapdragon-powered smartphones in the United States and Canada. On the other hand, most of the other regions get the Exynos variant. We expect to see the same trend with the Galaxy S24 FE.

We also got a hint of the memory and storage specifications. According to a reliable tip (tweet attached below), the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE will have 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage. LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0 are the current flagship standards, making the upcoming phone stand solid in the competition.

@OreXda has also reported that the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE will feature a 4500 mAh battery. Compared to the competition, 4500 mAh will result in reliable battery life. As for the screen size, the tipster’s report suggests that the phone will likely have a 6.1-inch AMOLED panel. And this tip also seems to be on point, as the FE devices tend to be a little smaller than the regular S24. If you’re unaware, the standard S24 sports a 6.2-inch display.
