Samsung took a giant step for smartphones by taking its software update policy forward. In attempting to back smartphones in the long run, the South Korean behemoth said that certain of its flagship smartphones would be getting Android, One UI, and security updates for seven years. This move is a giant step in the right direction for Samsung’s software plan, elevating the fortunes of a number of other Android rivals and trending more in the direction of Apple’s classic support strategy.

The company first introduced this new support policy change in January 2024 at the launch event of the Galaxy S24 series. Following the announcement, all S24 series phones—the vanilla S24, S24+, and flagship S24 Ultra—will be able to benefit from this expanded support window. The phones will get seven full years of software updates, including major Android version updates, custom One UI updates, and monthly or quarterly security updates.

Interestingly, Samsung has also proceeded to make a statement that the new Galaxy S25 series of phones will also fall under this policy, assuring its consumers that they will be treated equally by the same extended support.

In addition to S-series, seven years of update is also provided by Samsung to its tablets and foldables. Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, and rumored Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition are also receiving seven years of updates. Tab users will also receive long-term support and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra and Tab S10+ are among them.
