After a couple of teasers, Honor finally took the wraps off its excellent Honor 400 series. The new intermediary flagships are here to impress with outstanding specifications for the most demanding users. Honor has smartly selected the specifications in these devices, making them powerful but still more affordable than premium flagships. The use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 from last year is one of the wise choices adopted by the brand. It ensures excellent performance while keeping it more affordable than Snapdragon 8 Elite smartphones. Another notable feature is the presence of a 200 MP camera, marking a comeback from the brand to the world of super-resolution cameras.
The new lineup is composed of the Honor 400 and 400 Pro. The latter is the larger, more powerful smartphone, featuring a dedicated telephoto camera. The vanilla model follows the current market trend of being smaller and more affordable. Both come with a 200 MP camera and all the AI features that Honor and Google developed, like the AI Image to Video feature that has been teased intensively in the past few days.
Honor 400 Pro – The Powerful Flagship of Our Dreams
The Pro variant is the most interesting if you want brute force and premium specs. It features a 200 MP camera with OIS, a 50 MP telephoto shooter with OIS, and a 12 MP ultrawide camera with macro capabilities. The front-facing snapper is a 50 MP shooter.
Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, just like the 300 Pro. The device comes with up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of Storage. It is powered by AI tools from Google Cloud and Honor’s own AI Image to Video feature. The AI can also remove passers-by, unwanted objects, and reflections. There are more AI features implemented, like AI Subtitles, AI Translation, AI writing tools, AI Summary, and more. Besides creative and work applications, AI can protect you too with the Deepfake Detection feature that can catch scam video calls.
The Honor 400 Pro is equipped with a 6.7-inch Quad-Curved Display featuring a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,800 x 1,280 pixels of resolution. This panel offers HDR Brightness with peak 5,000 nits with 3,840Hz PWM dimming.
The phone is slim with 8.1mm, and weighs 205 grams. It is rated IP68/IP69 for dust and water resistance. There is also a 5,300 mAh Si/C battery inside that offers support for 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. As per the company, the battery will keep 80% of its original capacity after 4 years of use. It is rated at 1,200 charge cycles.
As aforementioned by Honor, the 400 and 400 Pro will be eligible for six years of OS updates and security patches. That said, the phone will be updated until 2031. It ships with Android 15 but will receive an Android 16 update later this year.
Honor 400
The Honor 400 is the smaller variant two featuring a 6.55-inch display, a flat 120Hz panel with 2,736 x 1,264 pixels of resolution, and the same 5000 nits peak HDR brightness with 3,840Hz PWM dimming. The device is thinner and lighter at 7.3mm and 184 grams. The device still has the same 5,300 mAh battery. The charging tech has been cut down to 66W wired-only charging, however.
The vanilla smartphone loses the telephoto sensor but keeps the promising 200 MP main camera with OIS. It also has a 12 MP ultrawide snapper with macro mode. There is also a 50 MP selfie camera. Due to the lack of a telephoto shooter, the super-zoom capabilities are handled by the 200 MP camera. The quality of zoomed photos isn’t the same as a dedicated tele camera, but it works.
The Honor 400 comes with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. It’s the same chipset as its predecessor. It’s a good chipset for everyday tasks; however, don’t expect the same flagship performance for gaming and heavy tasks. The device has 8 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of Storage. This model has the same AI features as seen in the Pro. So, in terms of quality of life and features, the experience will be similar.
The vanilla phone has splash resistance with an IP65 rating.
