Google is undertaking a drastic change in the way it manufactures its smartphone chips. The company has chosen to collaborate with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC as it’s widely referred to. It’s a long-term deal that will witness Google’s future Tensor G5 chipset come to life. For the first time ever, Google will be using a TSMC-manufactured processor in phones and tablets.

Google Tensor Chipset

Samsung has so far been Google’s lead chip manufacturer. The Tensor G4 chipset is probably going to be the last one to be made by Samsung on behalf of Google. This is because Samsung’s new 3nm GAA manufacturing process has faced some challenges. Google faced delays and higher expenses, and therefore less effective and sustainable production.

TSMC is popular for its strong and state-of-the-art chip manufacturing technology. Many leading technology companies like Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek are already using TSMC for their chips. Google’s move to TSMC shows that it likes to improve the quality and performance of chips in its devices.

Google Secures Long-Term Deal with TSMC for Next-Generation Tensor chips

Google executives traveled to Taiwan in late May to meet with TSMC’s executives. The two sides signed a deal in these negotiations that will last up to five years. Google will use the agreement to produce chips for the foreseeable future.

The Tensor G5 chipset will be running on the Pixel 10 series. The new phones will launch in the fourth quarter of 2025. This partnership with TSMC could shape Google’s Pixel phones for the next two or three years.

TSMC is expanding the horizons of chip technology. Most of this year’s flagship chips are being manufactured on TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process, or N3P technology. The firm also started taking orders for its next-generation 2nm process in April. All of these developments allow TSMC to dominate the chip manufacturing industry.

Google’s decision to partner with TSMC demonstrates its commitment to quality and efficiency. By partnering with one of the world’s leading manufacturers of chips, Google is dedicated to delivering enhanced performance and power efficiency in products to users.
