Windows operating system competition continues to shift once again. Recent figures point to a surprising trend—Windows 11 is losing ground. As much as it’s the latest OS from Microsoft, its adoption is slowing down. Meanwhile, Windows 10 is gaining followers despite its support expiration mere months away.
Windows 11 Market Share is on the decline as Humans Are Sticking with Windows 10
Over the last month, Windows 11’s percentage fell by 0.5% from 43.72% to 43.22%. Windows 10, however, grew a bit with a rise of 0.25% to 53.19%. This shows that users are not interested in upgrading even when Microsoft pushes them over and over.
Windows 11 came out in late 2021. But nearly four years later, it still trails Windows 10. One of the biggest reasons is its strict system requirements. Windows 11 needs a TPM 2.0 processor chip and newer processors, which older computers don’t support. Those system requirements block most users from upgrading.
Windows 11 Market Share Drops: Here’s Why
But there’s more than the hardware involved. Windows 11’s changed look and feel of the system are hard for most to get used to. The transition’s steep learning curve and unfamiliar interface make individuals hesitant to change.
Support for Windows 10 officially stops in October 2025. That allows only four months before users start compromising on security if they don’t upgrade. Yet, nobody is certain how many individuals will transition to Win 11 by then.
The same happened when Windows 7 rolled out. Users clung to it long after Windows 10 came out. Microsoft may be experiencing the same hesitation again.
Depending on when that deadline is, the actual switch won’t happen until the fall. Will users ever make the switch to Win 11? Only time will tell.
What do you think? Are you looking to switch over, or will you stick with Windows 10?
