Samsung appears to be working on a new foldable phone, and it’s taking it a step further than its usual designs this time. A new phone with the model number SM-F9680 appeared on one of China’s certification sites. Reports confirm a tri-fold phone may become a part of Samsung’s lineup soon.
Samsung Tri-Fold Phone Spotted on China’s Certification Site
As contrast to the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip, which fold in half, this model uses a tri-folding mechanism. The three-fold could allow a much bigger screen when fully open. It also implies more flexibility in using the device, and as a tablet, too.
While the concept is attractive, technical details may bring expectations down. The phone is said to be listed as a 5G digital mobile device. The charger that is included, though, is only 25W wired fast charging. This is the same EP-TA800 adapter as that used with earlier Samsung phones.
Samsung Set to Launch Innovative Tri-Fold Phone
For a three-screen phone and greater hardware demands, 25W charging would fall short. Users anticipating quicker charging rates would be let down. Samsung seems to be adhering to its conventional charging rates, with devices like the Galaxy S25 Edge.
But the tri-fold concept proves that Samsung is still leading when it comes to innovation in the foldable phone arena. The phone could introduce a new experience, especially to those who are multi-taskers or view a lot of content.
Until more is official, everyone’s question still stands: how will this new form factor play out in real life? Will it be durable? Will it be worth its likely hefty price tag?
