Apple’s Foldable iPhone Display Sizes Leak

Foldable iPhone

It’s been whispered about for years, and now we’re finally starting to see the shape—literally—of Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone. According to new details from research firm TrendForce, Apple’s first entry into the foldables market will feature a 7.8-inch inner screen and a 5.5-inch outer display. That might not sound especially large in 2025. For comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 already sports an 8-inch main screen and a 6.5-inch cover display. Still, size isn’t everything. And when it comes to Apple, measured restraint is often part of the brand.

A Second Source — Or the Same One, Recycled?

It’s worth noting that these exact same dimensions were first floated by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo back in March. So is this TrendForce confirmation—or just repetition? That’s unclear. But in the world of Apple rumors, the difference can be blurry. That said, when two separate firms echo the same detail months apart, it adds weight. Whether TrendForce is pulling from its own supply chain data or not, the 7.8/5.5-inch combo is now looking more likely.

Foldable iPhone Display: What About the Crease?

Last week, Kuo added another intriguing piece to the puzzle: Apple’s foldable iPhone may avoid the most notorious design flaw in foldables so far—the crease. How? According to Kuo, Apple is experimenting with a laser-drilled metal display plate. It’s a structural change that could disperse the stress caused by repeated bending. If it works as promised, it could result in a smoother, flatter display that doesn’t form that telltale wrinkle over time.

Samsung is said to be working on a similar solution for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The next twelve months could redefine what “foldable” actually looks—and feels—like.

Cameras and Biometrics: Simpler, Not Flashier

In terms of features, Kuo claims the first foldable iPhone won’t go overboard. Expect two rear cameras, one front-facing camera, and no Face ID. Instead, Apple may bring back Touch ID, this time embedded in the power button.

That’s not just a callback to earlier iPhones—it’s a practical move. Foldable form factors can complicate Face ID’s reliability and placement. Touch ID on the side? It’s simple. It works. And frankly, a lot of users still prefer it.

A 2026 Launch Is the Best Bet (for Now)

TrendForce currently expects Apple to launch its foldable iPhone (along with its display) in the second half of 2026, most likely aiming for the company’s usual September release window. That would give Apple just over a year to finalize the hardware, scale up production, and polish its pitch.

There’s no official name yet. No prototype glimpses. Not even a teaser. But with display specs now aligning across multiple sources—and foldable tech maturing fast—Apple’s silence may not last much longer.
