Lenovo Legion gaming phone leaked with a side pop-up camera

The Chinese company Lenovo sells PCs, laptops and accessories for gamers under the name Legion. Now the group wants to pick up these users with their smartphones and announced the Lenovo Legion, a high-end gaming phone. The company announced this device back in February and repeatedly teased some functions on its Weibo account. Lenovo also reveals there that the device supports charging with up to 90 watts. That would be a new record for smartphones. However, the colleagues from XDA-Developers has published the first pictures that are supposed to show the Legion smartphone design. The very unusual placement of the pop-up camera is particularly striking here.

Gizchina News of the week

Unusual cameras on the Lenovo Legion gaming smartphone

Like the ROG Phone 2 or other gaming smartphones, the Lenovo Legion has a very special aesthetic. Clear lines and bright colors determine the overall design. The unusual thing here is that the camera pop-up does not extend at the top, but at the side. The two sensors are not located in the usual placement but lie flat with the glass in the middle of the device. This allows the design on the back to remain symmetrical, but the camera still looks a bit out of place. We should have a rear camera with 64MP and an ultra-wide-angle camera with 16MP and a 20MP selfie.

The display is logically particularly important for a gaming smartphone. Lenovo should use a refresh rate of 144 Hz, which enables extremely smooth playback. There is also no notch or punch hole that could interfere with the gaming experience. Lenovo also wants to take the gaming aspect into account.

The Legion will be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 and will have superfast LPDDR5 RAM installed. There is not yet an exact release date. Presumably, the release has been delayed somewhat due to the coronavirus. It is also initially unclear whether the device will appear outside of China.
