The social network TikTok once again intends to take away part of the audience from media giants like YouTube. According to the latest data, the company is gradually rolling out global support for uploading ten-minute videos alongside traditional short videos.

TikTok challenges YouTube by including support for ten-minute videos

According to well-known British social media expert Matt Navarra, he has already received a message about the TikTok update, which announces the global release of the new version of the social network for both smartphones and PC users.

British journalist Chris Stokel-Walker confirmed the information, quoting a TikTok spokesperson: “Today we are excited to begin rolling out the ability to upload videos up to 10 minutes, which we hope will open up even more creative options for our content creators around the world”.

This is not the first time TikTok has increased the maximum length of uploaded videos – in July last year, the platform provided the ability to upload videos up to 3 minutes long, although at first the time was limited to 60 seconds.

The news didn’t really come as a surprise. Less than two months after TikTok allowed three-minute videos to be published; it quietly began experimenting with ten-minute videos for a limited number of users. We think that the new functionality will provide content authors with more flexibility. Now, instead of splitting a relatively long video into separate short fragments, they will download the entire video. In other words, TikTok is really gradually turning into a competitor of YouTube; while the latter service, on the contrary, is actively developing short videos.

Following Instagram, TikTok began testing paid subscriptions

The popular social network TikTok has earlier begun testing a paid subscription system. According to a previous report by The Information.

Interestingly, recently a similar step is also coming to Instagram. TikTok is exploring the possibility of allowing celebrity creators to set fees; for access to the content they post on TikTok. So far, the paid subscriptions feature is in testing in a very limited way.

A company’s spokesperson told Engadget. “We are always thinking of new ways to benefit our community and enrich the TikTok experience.”

While the subscriptions feature is not available to everyone, fans can still support their favorite creators with money through the Tips feature, as well as buy and send virtual gifts to them. For more details regarding the upcoming subscriptions service on TikTok, keep in touch with us.
