Apple is expected to bring a big change with this year’s iPhone 16 lineup. The latest leak reveals dummy models of the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup, including the vanilla iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and Pro Max. The most striking detail from leaked iPhone 16 dummy models is the sheer scale of the Pro Max model. Along with the latest dummy leak, we will also cover the previously known rumors and leaks in this article.
The latest leak coming from Sonny Dickson matches previous leaks of the size changes for the iPhone 16 lineup. The change in display size of the new Pro models is a big highlight on its own since it will be a big change after years.
New Display Size
The vanilla iPhone 16 will stick to the 6.1-inch screen, and the Plus also gets the 6.7-inch screen like the previous generations. However, the size changes are done for the Pro models. The iPhone 16 Pro gets a bigger 6.3-inch screen, compared to a 6.1-inch on the current model. The iPhone 16 Pro Max gets a huge 6.9-inch screen compared to the previous 6.7-inch size.
These size increases, particularly for the Pro Max, could transform how users interact with their devices. The larger display would offer more screen real estate for gaming, media consumption, and productivity tasks. However, the increased size might compromise one-handed usability, making it more challenging to reach across the screen and potentially necessitating adjustments in grip and how the phone is held.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max’s rumored 6.9-inch display could differentiate it from competitors like the 6.8-inch Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. While some may appreciate the size increase, it could affect usability and potentially influence broader market trends.
Apple’s decisions often shape the smartphone industry. For example, some companies started making their versions of Dynamic Island, after it was introduced by Apple. If other companies follow suit with even larger displays, it could potentially trickle down to mid-range devices. Future phones in the mid-range market might adopt similar screen sizes to stay in the trend.
Gizchina News of the week
New camera design for the non-Pro iPhone models
The design for the camera module seems unchanged for the Pro models. However, the design changes for the non-Pro models. As the leak indicates, Apple may bring back the pill-shaped design from the iPhone X for the new iPhone 16 models. The primary reason for this design change is for the support of spatial video recording. This will make a hype in the market because Apple has not changed the camera module in a long time.
Expected Features
Beyond screen size, rumors and leaks (via MacWorld) suggest other advancements across the iPhone 16 lineup. Firstly, the iPhone 16 series is expected to bring a new capture button. This will make it easier and quicker to capture photos. Apart from this, we anticipate AI enhancements. With the new A18 Pro processor, Apple will be able to make the next-gen iPhone have more AI capabilities thanks to an improved Neural Engine. The A18 Pro chipset will be based on a 3nm process, hence Apple will target AI as the highlighting feature.
Previously, there was also a report suggesting a new lens coating for iPhone 16 Pro models. This will reduce lens flare and ghosting. We also expect the support of 8K video recording, however, it might be limited to the Pro models only. Moving to the display, Apple will stick with standard OLED screens for the iPhone 16 rather than the LTPO. This means that the non-Pro models will still have no ProMotion or always-on display.
Leaks suggest battery life improvements for most iPhone 16 models. The iPhone 16 Pro is rumored to receive a revamped battery design with a metal casing (replacing the black foil) and a new connector, alongside a slight capacity increase to 3,355mAh (from 3,274mAh). The standard iPhone 16 and the top-tier iPhone 16 Pro Max are also said to benefit from larger batteries – 3,561mAh and 4,676mAh respectively. However, the iPhone 16 Plus might be the odd one out, with a potential decrease in capacity to 4,006mAh.
We will get to know more about the iPhone 16 series, once it is officially announced in September 2024.
