Xbox is one of the strongest forces in the console and games. Besides the Xbox serving as the company’s console, Xbox Game Pass also stands as one of the best gaming services available. In the company’s gaming history, certainly, the old players will have a special place in their hearts for the Xbox 360. If the original Xbox served to kickstart Microsoft in the gaming field, it was the Xbox 360 that established its name and fought closely with Sony for the preference of players. The console that landed in 2005 was the house for legendary games and gave birth to games from important franchises like Gears of War. 20 Years later, Microsoft is showing its commitment to those who still have an Xbox 360 lying around with original hardware and software – A new update arrives!
Xbox 360 Gets a Surprising Update
The Xbox 360 almost beat the rival PlayStation 3 in sales, which suffered with a complex architecture, higher prices, and nearly killed Sony’s gaming division. For many players, the Xbox 360 was the most accessible and better option, and the console certainly deserves a place in the video game industry. It is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and despite the fact that Microsoft closed its marketplace last summer, it is still bringing an update out of nowhere.
The more surprising it can be, the update isn’t anything jaw-dropping. The surprise is here, but we can’t expect anything big for a 20-year-old console. According to a Reddit post, users who got this update noticed that the game previews in the dashboard look much sharper and better than before. There is also a new ad that references the Xbox Series X/S consoles and also says: “Experience next-gen performance and upgrade now”. The update brings a small quality of life improvement and does some free propaganda for the current generation.
It’s not a big deal, but still, it’s quite surprising to see anything official reaching the old console. It may be a simple reminder for those who are still playing on the console, regardless of the challenges, such as the lack of a marketplace. Microsoft wants to reaffirm that there is a new generation with more performance, newer games, and backward compatibility with Xbox 360 games. However, people playing the old console certainly have their reasons for doing so. Maybe they can’t afford a new console, or simply can’t leave behind the memories built with the 360. And we won’t even discuss the possibilities with after-market software available for the console, that add some extra functionalities and can even make it a powerful house for emulation.
