Samsung is getting ready to launch a new processor called the Exynos 1680, and it has already made an early appearance in a performance test online. While the company hasn’t officially introduced the chip yet, some details are starting to come out, especially through its Geekbench listing.
A Sneak Peek at the Exynos 1680
The Exynos 1680 showed up on Geekbench with the model number S5E8865. The graphics processor, Xclipse 550 GPU, is one of the main talking points of this chip. It handles gaming and other visual tasks. Interestingly, the Xclipse 550 is expected to be based on AMD’s RDNA 3.5 graphics technology. This is the same kind of tech found in Samsung’s upcoming high-end chip, the Exynos 2500.
The Exynos 1680 was put through the Geekbench test and scored 6,330 in the OpenCL benchmark. This test aims to measure the CPU and GPU and how well both can handle computing tasks. Though the score isn’t close to world-breaking records, it is an amazing performance of the mid-range chip.
A Follow-up to the Exynos 1580
The Exynos 1680 may be the next version of the Exynos 1580, which is currently on some of Samsung’s 2024 phones. Since the older model had the S5E8855 code name, and this new one is S5E8865, it fits right in as its successor. Samsung seems to be keeping a steady upgrade path for its mid-range processors.
Likely Coming with the Galaxy A57
This new chip should power the upcoming Galaxy A57. That phone will be part of Samsung’s popular A-series, which offers good performance at a more affordable price. After the A57, the chip will likely show up in other A-series phones as well.
Samsung hasn’t said anything official about the Exynos 1680 yet. But with benchmarks already showing up online, the launch may be just around the corner. If the rumours are right, this chip could give mid-range phones a nice performance boost without raising prices too much.
