The saturating Chinese market and simultaneously, the sudden expansion in the Indian smartphone market means that India is Xiaomi’s second home. It certainly appears that way.
After offering its phone online only for the initial part of its tenure in India, Xiaomi teamed up with retail chains such as The Mobile Store to allow buyers to purchase phones offline. It seems as though the offline experiment has worked well for Xiaomi, which is perhaps why the company is keen on expanding its presence beyond the WWW.
Xiaomi has collaborated with Redington in order to gain access to the 1000-1500 offline stores it operates. This means that if you’re in India, you’ll soon be able to get a hands on experience with and even purchase a Xiaomi phone without having to place an order online.
15 major Indian cities — including Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mysore and Visakhapatnam — will have brick-and-mortar stores stocking Xiaomi devices. These stores will initially offer the Redmi 2, Mi 4, Mi 4i and Mi Pad for 5,999 INR, 14,999 INR, 12,999 INR and 12,999 INR respectively — so there’s nothing extra that offline buyers will have to pay.
